The American Medical Devices and Diagnostics Manufacturers’ Association (AMDD) is an industry association established in 2009 comprising over 60 member companies, most of which are Japanese subsidiaries of U.S.-based corporations, that handle medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics (IVD). April 4, 2019, marked our 10-year anniversary.
Member companies of AMDD provide cutting-edge therapeutic devices such as pacemakers, orthopedic medical devices such as reconstructive joint implants, ophthalmic devices, large medical imaging devices, genetic testing devices, various IVD and related systems. AMDD member companies not only engage in product import and sales but also work in close cooperation with the Japanese medical device industry in R&D, and in promoting the use of Japanese-made parts and components in their products.
In Japan, AMDD directly employs around 21,000 people. Member companies have bases such as repair and maintenance facilities scattered around 42 prefectures in Japan, contributing greatly to the advancement of the Japanese medical device industry.
